RS:X NZ Youth Selection Trials and final Techno 293 Kendall Cup regatta.

March 23 – 24 will see Wakatere hosting the RS:X NZ Youth Selection Trials and Techno 293 competing in the 6th and final race series of the Kendall Cup. The event will kick off on Saturday and on Sunday will run in combination with the Wakatere Club Champs Day 1. Windsurfing will run on a separate course for this day. Enter online at the WBC Bookings site NOR attached.

Please be aware that the club has hired out the hall for a wedding on Saturday night. Setup for this will happen during the day. Regatta management will utilise the facilities downstairs. We will have full access to the club for the final day of racing and formalities on Sunday.

Usually we would hold the traditional BBQ on Saturday, but as the function will utilise the club kitchen I’d suggest a meal at “The Platter” next to the “Masonic”
http://www.plattercafe.co.nz/ to celebrate the work and commitment by all, maintaining growth within the Techno and RS:X class over the last 2 seasons.

There are techno Fleets at the following clubs through out the country. Manly, Murrays Bay, Wakatere, Kohimarama, Tauranga and Naval Point. The newest fleet is 25 beginner sailors in Rotorua. If you are in Auckland and want to learn to windsurf these holidays.
Over winter three sailors attended the Worlds in Mdemblik. This spring 5 sailors are competing in the New Caledonia Techno Nationals. There are a few sailors who will be training hard to qualify NZ for the Youth Olympics in 2014.
A disappointing ISAF decision hasn’t deterred Kiwi youths from their Techno’s and RS:X Boards. In just a few short years the Bic Techno T293 has become the board of choice for fun, learning and racing. It does so much well. In light airs it can sail up wind on it’s centreboard. When it is above 10-15 kts they can plane upwind. The board is bulletproof. Very robust. They have great resale value.
If you would like to have a go at windsurfing ask any of the sailors. They would love to help you into the sport.

The BIC TECHNO T293
The place to start – the beginners’ windsurfing class is known as the Techno class. The board, sail and rig used is common throughout the world
A simple analogy would be to see the Techno as the “Optimist” of the windsurfing classes:
one board
one design sail
one design rigs
feeder to all international windsurf classes
approved “Olympic Pathway”
